Thesis on Issues

Discussion of a Master’s Thesis on Issues Judged as “Not Authentic”

Under the patronage of the esteemed President of the University of Fallujah, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Suleiman Hamad, and under the supervision and follow-up of the Dean of the College of Islamic Sciences, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Jasem Abd, the public defense of the master’s student Taif Khalil Ghanem, from the Department of Arabic Language – College of Islamic Sciences / University of Fallujah, was held on the morning of Tuesday, 9/12/2025, for his thesis titled:

“Issues Judged as ‘Not Authentic’ (lā ṣiḥḥ) by Abū Ḥayyān (d. 745 AH) in al-Tadhyīl wa al-Takmīl: A Grammatical Study from the Beginning of the Book to the End of the Grammatical Operators (al-Nawāsikh)”,
held in the main hall of the College of Islamic Sciences.

The examination committee consisted of the following professors:

  • Prof. Dr. Na‘mah Dahsh Farhan – Chair
  • Prof. Dr. Abdulrazzaq Ali Hussein – Member
  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Adnan Jum‘ah ‘Odah – Member
  • Prof. Dr. Omar Ali Mohammed – Member and Supervisor

Objectives of the Thesis:
This thesis aims to collect the issues judged by Abū Ḥayyān (d. 745 AH) as “not authentic (lā ṣiḥḥ)” in his book al-Tadhyīl wa al-Takmīl, study them grammatically, and compare them with the views of earlier, contemporary, and later grammarians.

Key Findings:
The study reached several conclusions, the most prominent of which is that the issues Abū Ḥayyān judged as “not authentic” in al-Tadhyīl wa al-Takmīl were diverse; at times he held a unique opinion, and at other times he agreed with the views of grammarians who preceded him.

After an extensive discussion by the committee members, the thesis was accepted with the grade of “Pass (Sufficient)”.
