Under the patronage of the President of the University of Fallujah, Prof. Ahmed Suleiman Hamd, and under the supervision and follow-up of the Dean of the College of Islamic Sciences, Prof. Mohammed Jassim Abd, the public defense of the Master's thesis submitted by Abdullah Majeed Mohammed, a student in the Department of Arabic Language, College of Islamic Sciences, University of Fallujah, was held on the morning of Sunday, July 12, 2026.
The thesis, entitled "Restriction through Appositives in the Prophetic Hadiths of Riyāḍ al-Ṣāliḥīn by al-Nawawī (d. 676 AH): A Grammatical Study," was defended in the Central Hall of the College of Islamic Sciences.
The examination committee consisted of:
- Prof. Mohammed Hadi Mohammed – Chair
- Prof. Mahmoud Suleiman Alawi – Member
- Assist. Prof. Khalil Ibrahim Alawi – Member
- Assist. Prof. Saad Sabbar Abdulbaqi – Member and Supervisor
Objectives of the Thesis:
The study aimed to identify and examine the grammatical issues related to appositives (al-tawābiʿ) in Riyāḍ al-Ṣāliḥīn through a comprehensive grammatical analysis. It also sought to reveal the various methods and manifestations of restriction expressed through different types and forms of appositives.
Major Findings:
The thesis reached several significant conclusions, the most prominent of which is the large number of instances in which Imam al-Nawawī (may Allah have mercy on him) addressed grammatical issues, particularly those related to appositives. His treatment of these structures demonstrates how meanings and legal rulings are qualified and restricted through the use of appositives.
Following a thorough discussion by the examination committee, the thesis was accepted with the grade of Pass.
