The thesis is entitled: “Grammatical Objections in al-Khudari’s Marginalia (d. 1287 AH) on Ibn Aqil’s Commentary (d. 769 AH) – An Analytical Study.” The defense was held in the central hall of the College of Islamic Sciences.
The examination committee consisted of the following professors:
- Prof. Dr. Abdulrazzaq Ali Hussein – Chair
- Prof. Dr. Abdulkarim Nasser Mahmoud – Member
- Asst. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Sami Nassif – Member
- Prof. Dr. Mohammed Khalid Rahal – Member and Supervisor
Objectives of the thesis: The thesis aims to highlight the value of scholarly dialogue in building and developing grammatical studies, to shed light on later grammatical efforts, and to clarify al-Khudari’s methodology in critiquing and objecting to the grammatical opinions of his predecessors.
Key findings: The study concluded that al-Khudari’s marginalia represent one of the important and complementary commentaries on Ibn Aqil’s work, distinguished by concise yet beneficial explanations and scientific precision. Moreover, most of al-Khudari’s objections were not his own independent judgments, but rather drawn from leading grammarians such as Abu Ali al-Farisi, al-Farra’, Ibn Hisham, and others.
Following an in-depth discussion by the committee members, the thesis was accepted with the grade of “Meets Requirements.”
