Doctoral Dissertation Defense
Under the patronage of the President of the University of Fallujah, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Suleiman Hamad, and under the supervision and follow-up of the Dean of the College of Islamic Sciences, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Jasim Abd, the public defense of the doctoral dissertation of the PhD candidate (Yasser Aboud Abdullah), from the Department of Sharia – College of Islamic Sciences / University of Fallujah, was held on Sunday morning, 1/3/2026, in the Central Hall of the College of Islamic Sciences.
The dissertation was entitled:
“Usul-Based Research According to Imam Ibn Faris the Linguist (d. 395 AH)”
The examination committee consisted of the following professors:
- Prof. Dr. Saadi Khalaf Matlab – Chair
- Prof. Dr. Suhaib Abbas Ouda – Member
- Prof. Dr. Salih Mohammed Salih – Member
- Assist. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Hussein Ouda – Member
- Assist. Prof. Dr. Amjad Muraqib Dawood – Member
- Prof. Dr. Mohammed Jasim Abd – Member and Supervisor
Dissertation Objectives:
This study aims to highlight the maqasid-based methodology of Dr. Ali Al-Qaradaghi in the field of economic systems, and to clarify the features of his application of Sharia objectives in his contemporary financial ijtihad. It seeks to contribute to the development of Islamic financial jurisprudence, connect it to contemporary realities, achieve economic justice, enhance financial stability, and support comprehensive development pathways.
Key Findings:
The dissertation reached several conclusions, most notably that wealth has been an essential necessity for humankind since the dawn of humanity, serving as a means to realize the objectives of civilization and stewardship on earth, as well as sustaining the necessities of life. It further concluded that the objectives of Islamic law constitute an authentic and effective methodological framework for addressing contemporary financial transactions when applied according to precise scholarly standards that take into account textual evidence, consequences, and contextual realities.
Following an extensive discussion by the examination committee, the dissertation was accepted with the grade “Pass.”
