and the defense took place in the main hall of the College of Islamic Sciences.
The discussion committee consisted of the following professors:
- Prof. Dr. Abdul Qadir Mustafa Abdul Razaq – Chair
- Prof. Dr. Samer Sultan Mohammed – Member
- Prof. Dr. Sarmad Fuad Shafiq – Member
- Prof. Dr. Abdul Qadir Mohammed Hussein – Member and Supervisor
Objectives of the Thesis:
This study aims to analyze the calls for renewal in Hadith sciences adopted by Arab modernists, uncovering the methodological and intellectual foundations upon which these calls are based, and examining their consistency or contradiction with the established principles and rules of Hadith science. It also aims to highlight the influence of Western thought in shaping these calls.
Key Findings:
The study reached several conclusions, most notably:
- Many modernist calls for renewal in Hadith sciences are based on unscientific foundations and rely on external readings disconnected from the internal spirit and tools of the discipline.
- These calls often exhibit a weakness in Hadith-based grounding and a limited understanding of the principles of Hadith criticism and narration.
After an in-depth discussion by the committee members, the thesis was accepted with a grade of “Fulfilled”.
