Master’s Thesis Defense

Master’s Thesis Defense

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Fallujah, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Suleiman Hamad (Respected), and under the supervision and follow-up of the Dean of the College of Islamic Sciences, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Jasim Abdul (Respected), the public defense of the Master’s thesis submitted by the student Haneen Falah Hassan Ali took place on Monday morning, 29/12/2025, in the Department of Arabic Language, College of Islamic Sciences / University of Fallujah. The thesis was entitled:
“Dialectal Studies in the Printed Works of Al-Fakihi (d. 972 AH)”,
and was held in the Central Hall of the College of Islamic Sciences.

The examination committee consisted of the following professors:

  • Prof. Dr. Mohammed Abdul Dhiab – Chair
  • Asst. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Juma Mahmoud – Member
  • Asst. Prof. Dr. Adnan Juma Ouda – Member
  • Asst. Prof. Dr. Saad Sabbar Abdulbaqi – Member and Supervisor

Objectives of the Thesis:
This thesis aims to highlight the importance of examining lexical forms among the Arabs, their meanings, and the methods adopted by each tribe in dealing with words or sentences. It also seeks to shed light on Al-Fakihi’s contributions in revealing dialectal changes across lexical, phonetic, semantic, and pragmatic systems at all levels, in addition to clarifying the dialectal diversity for which the Arabic language was known throughout its successive eras.

Key Findings:
The study reached several conclusions, most notably the comprehensive approach adopted by Al-Fakihi in his discussions, which encompassed language, grammar, morphology, Qur’anic readings, interpretation, and jurisprudential principles. This reflected the exceptional scholarly capacity of this eminent scholar. Moreover, Al-Fakihi demonstrated deep engagement in presenting the differences between the Basran and Kufan grammatical schools.

Following an extensive discussion of the thesis by the members of the examination committee, the thesis was accepted with a grade of “Pass.”
