Master’s Thesis Defense on the Method of Grammatical Analysis of Ibn Iyyaz
Under the patronage of the President of the University of Fallujah, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Suleiman Hamad, and under the supervision and follow-up of the Dean of the College of Islamic Sciences, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Jassim Abdul, the public defense of the Master’s student Saad Hassan Suwadi, Department of Arabic Language – College of Islamic Sciences / University of Fallujah, was held on the morning of Tuesday, 19/8/2025, for his thesis entitled:
“The Method of Grammatical Analysis of Ibn Iyyaz (d. 681 AH) in His Book Qawāʿid al-Muṭāraḥa”
The defense took place in the Central Hall of the College of Islamic Sciences.
The discussion committee consisted of the following esteemed professors:

- Asst. Prof. Dr. Khalil Ibrahim Alawi – Member
- Asst. Prof. Dr. Saad Sabbar Abdulbaqi – Member
- Prof. Dr. Mohammed Hadi Mohammed – Member and Supervisor
Objectives of the Thesis:
This thesis aims to examine the method of grammatical analysis adopted by Ibn Iyyaz, in order to clarify the tools, foundations, sources, principles, and approaches upon which he relied in his analytical methodology. It also seeks to highlight his style in presenting grammatical material and the manner in which he addressed grammatical issues and topics.
Findings of the Study:
The thesis reached several conclusions, the most important of which is that Ibn Iyyaz’s methodology was characterized by scientific rigor. His grammatical analysis was based on a set of foundations, sources, and methodological principles, and his approach was often distinguished by systematic classification and arrangement in the presentation of grammatical material, issues, and subjects.
Following the extensive deliberations of the examining committee, the thesis was approved with a grade of “Pass with Fulfillment.”
