Master’s Thesis Defense on the Disliked Acts of the Prophet (peace be upon him).
Under the patronage of the President of Fallujah University, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Suleiman Hamad, and under the supervision and follow-up of the Dean of the College of Islamic Sciences, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Jasim Abdul, the public defense of the master’s student Noor Alaa Yahya, from the Department of Hadith and its Sciences – College of Islamic Sciences / University of Fallujah, was held this morning, Thursday, August 28, 2025., for her thesis entitled:
(The Hadiths on the Disliked Acts of the Prophet (peace be upon him) in the Six Books – An Analytical Study).
The defense was held in the central hall of the College of Islamic Sciences.
The discussion committee was composed of the following professors:
- Prof. Dr. Anwar Faris Abdul – Chair
- Prof. Dr. Saadoun Mohammed Jawad – Member
- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Abdulkarim Abdulrahman – Member
- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yasser Abdulrahman Saleh – Member and Supervisor
Objectives of the Thesis:
This thesis aims to survey the hadiths related to the category of disliked acts (makrūhāt) found in the Six Canonical Books of Hadith, compiling them in a verified scholarly manner, analyzing their chains of transmission and narrators according to the methodology of the hadith scholars, clarifying their degrees of authenticity and weakness, and then studying the wording, meanings, and jurisprudential implications contained within them.
Key Findings of the Thesis:
The study concluded with several findings, the most prominent of which is that the hadiths concerning disliked acts highlight the Prophet’s ﷺ care for refining souls and disciplining conduct. They also show that the Prophet’s expression of dislike carries precise legislative and educational connotations, encompassing multiple aspects of daily life and reflecting the accuracy of Islamic law.
After extensive deliberations by the discussion committee, the thesis was accepted with a grade of “Satisfactory/Pass”.
